Bringing together leading technology, artistic and media talent, Media Sandbox is a commissioning scheme to support South West companies/organisations to research emerging possibilities in digital media. In 2009, awards were made to six research projects exploring innovative multi-platform content.
This March, the six commissions began work on their projects and are now getting to the exciting stage of testing their developments.
On Thursday 7th May, 4pm, we’re holding an open Work in Progress event at the Pervasive Media Studio, and would be pleased if you can join us.
Just to re-cap what this years’ participants are researching: HMC, Drake Music & bibic, are creating a multi-sensory environment to benefit children with learning and physical disabilities; whilst Nomos Media & Radio in Schools are examining the role of pervasive media in education. Indie Mobile are concerned with enabling musicians and record labels to utilise short-form anonymous communications (such as sms, msn, twitter), to create humorous campaigns; whilst U-Soap Media are exploring the future of interaction in television programming. C6 & Steal From Work are considering how developments in pervasive technology can benefit street artists; and AntiVJ are drawing up plans for digital mapping technologies that will enable stunning projections on buildings, objects and even cars. If you want to find out more, you can catch-up with their progress on the Media Sandbox website.
The event will provide the opportunity to find out more about this year’s projects, test drive some of the software and take part in some interesting discussion around the technical challenges this years’ participants are facing.
